Overview

As part of Facebook's AI for Social Good Initiative, WSquare partners with Facebook to present India’s First Women-Led Hackathon in AI along with ThoughtWorks, to support women with career opportunities, women entrepreneurs in technology through mentorship, support and training in artificial intelligence. Our goal is to educate and empower women to become more involved and upskill themselves in emerging technology – so if you are aspiring to be programmers, data scientists, or aspire to find solutions for real-time problems, we are searching for you.

SPOT REGISTRATIONS OPEN ON 18TH MAY TILL 9.30 AM.

Our intention with the Hackathon is to focus on “workable ideas” and not algorithms as the target! So the output could be “solution blueprints” – which is a mix of visualizations, web pages, code with algorithms, etc.

Note: Individual participants must be a woman. Teams of 2 can have men with a woman leader. Free registration including Lunch and Dinner on Day 1 and Lunch on Day 2.

Data shows that while reporting of crimes against women has gone up, the conviction rate is only around 20%. In 2016, of 1,52,165 cases of domestic abuse pending trial, only 4,739 ended in conviction. From delayed proceedings, expensive legal counsel, and mismanaged courtrooms, the Indian judiciary is not perceived to be a resource for survivors of violence.

Further, the promise to set up one-stop crisis centres around the country still needs to be fulfilled. Till now, only 170 centres have become operational. Haryana has set up seven, including one in Gurugram. Unfortunately, the functioning and efficiency of these centres are often sub-standard in terms of infrastructure and systems. These centres are essential to improve the response to violence.

Creating a safer and more caring community for girls and women requires a change in our social norms and the way people think. For this, we need to address the education system and popular culture to ensure new ways of thinking so equality is fostered as a value.

Our intention with the Hackathon is to focus on “workable ideas” and not algorithms as the target! So the output could be “solution blueprints” – which is a mix of visualizations, web pages, code with algorithms, etc.

Problem Statement 1 - Crowd Safety

How can Artificial Intelligence help women in predicting crowd behaviour that could disrupt public peace and provide safety by checking on people’s movement, potential crime incidents, and general security of women?

Problem Statement 2 - Secure Home for Women

Smart homes concept is creating a buzz with AI technologies being developed to optimise human effort in performing daily activities. How can Smart Homes also help women reach out to self-help groups and police during instances of domestic violence, sexual harassment and legal counsel?
